Het TekenPad

Final Bachelor Project, Health squad, B3.3 (September 2020 – January 2021), coached by Emilia Barakova

Throughout my studies, I have experienced many problems due to Lyme disease. I noticed that Lyme disease decreased my quality of life and that it also influenced my professional development.

Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in Europe and is caused by a bacteria named Borrelia burgdorferi [2]. This bacteria could be transferred when a tick sucks blood from a human body. The amount of Dutch people who take preventive measures vary between 6% (insect repellent spray) to 37% (protective clothing) [1]. Besides, only 35% of our society has correct knowledge about Lyme disease.

Het TekenPad is designed to provide Dutch society with information in an interactive, explorative, experiencing, and accessible way. Het TekenPad will consist of 6 different informing poles that you can interact with, alone or in pairs, when being outdoors. Using local campaigns, Het TekenPad can be used by companies, organizations, and municipalities to make society aware of the consequences of the tick (a dangerous little creature…). Through raising awareness, the goal was to gain more recognition for the Lyme patient, but also to prevent more people getting Lyme disease.
